Quami Agbermodji (Country Director): My name is Quami Agbermodji. I was born in Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone. I was raised in a Muslim home with three siblings: two elder sisters and a younger brother. My father died when I was eight years old; because my mother was a petty trader and single it was difficult to find the resources to finish school. I became a Christian when I was fifteen years old through my younger brother. Because God provides, I met a man in church from the United States; he helped me through high school. I went on to obtain a Diploma in Business administration from the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM in the UK) as a correspondence course at the LICCSAL Business College.
I started working as a volunteer at Children of the Nations (COTN) as a warehouse storekeeper. After that initial year of volunteering I was hired as a staff member and took up the role of site supervisor and driver. A few years later I became the Assistant Social Welfare Officer and day caregiver. During my time at COTN I attended several trainings on trauma and counseling, child abuse, and other relevant topics. Later, I became the Logistics Officer for the said organization. In September 2007, I was appointed to represent the organization in the US at a fund raising banquet where I was the guest speaker and I also had the opportunity to share my testimony and about the eleven-year rebel war in high schools, churches, small groups and universities. When I returned from the states, I was promoted to the Venture Program Coordinator and lead the teams that visited Sierra Leone and COTN from the US. When COTN moved up-country, I was transferred to their site, 200 miles away from the city. It was difficult for me for those 2yrs, leaving my wife in the city of Freetown, we only have time to see each other once on while.
A friend in our church introduced me to TRS; I met with the Executive Director and Co- Founder. It was an exciting time for me, and as we talked and shared ideas together I felt God was telling me to join the TRS Family. I took the job as Country Director of TRS and stared full time in January of 2010.
I am a member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the stewardship committee there. I also head the welfare committee at the church as I am committed to helping the poor, the orphan, and the widow wherever I am.
My wife and I have been married now for eight years. We have been longing to have a child and a few months ago we found and adopted a newborn boy. It was several weeks later when we lost him. It has been a difficult time for us but God is faithful.
I am happy to be a part of TRS and a part of transforming the lives of orphans in Sierra Leone. It has been a blessing for me to be part of this family, and I also appreciate God Almighty how He is using me to lead His ministry—as He says in James 1:27…
