👋🏼 Meet Joseph

For many children with special needs in Sierra Leone, there is no hope. However, The Raining Season is a refuge. It is a place that welcomes ALL children with open arms. At The Raining Season, The Hope Room is an apartment solely dedicated to caring for and nurturing children with special needs. The Hope Room provides a safe place for children to be loved and cared for well. They receive specialized nutrition to help them gain weight and grow, as well as top-notch medical care. The aunties receive training to understand their specific needs and care for them based on those needs, including meeting their physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs. The Raining Season has become known in Freetown for the incredible care they give children with special needs. Our aunties in the Hope Room are compassionate and loving. Their gentle spirits and ability to connect with children in the Hope Room are an incredible blessing to the children and The Raining Season. We are thankful for the capabilities and resources to serve some of our most vulnerable children in Sierra Leone day in and day out.

Joseph is a child that receives top-notch care from the aunties in the Hope Room. The Raining Season knows very little about Joseph's background. He was found wandering the streets of Freetown in June of 2016 when we took him in. He was estimated to be about 12 years old at that time; however, we have no birthdate or family information about him. Joseph has developmental delays and speaks very little. He is also extremely tall! Standing at over 6 feet, he is lovingly referred to as our gentle giant. Joseph loves to sing, give hugs, and spend time outside of the Hope Room with all of the kids.

Joseph's story would have looked very different if it weren't for The Raining Season. In nearly five years, Joseph has been able to celebrate both big and small milestones. He went from surviving to thriving. Even though Joseph is primarily non-verbal, he radiates joy. He is loved and accepted by his aunties, uncles, brothers, and sisters at the center.

When you sponsor a child in the Hope Apartment, you are not only ensuring that they will have necessary medical care, but you play an extraordinary part in their story. You see, Joseph, along with all of the kiddos in the Hope Room, are incredible and extraordinary in every way. They brighten each room they are in with their smiles and lovable personalities. They teach us how to love without limits and be compassionate.

Think about Joseph for a minute. A twelve-year-old, non-verbal boy, wandering the streets of Freetown alone. Can you imagine coming across that boy? What would you do? Would you be willing to step in and be the hands and feet of Jesus that offers safety and protection? Are you ready to be a part of Joseph's story at The Raining Season? Learn more about sponsoring Joseph here.

Many blessings,

The Raining Season
