On April 26th, The Raining Season had the opportunity to welcome a very special guest to our center. Idris Elba visited The Covering, spending part of his afternoon with our kids and staff.
Idris Elba is an actor, producer, and musician. He has a long list of entertainment accomplishments, including a role in popular movies and tv shows such as Thor and The Avengers, The Office, DJing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 private evening wedding reception, and voicing Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie that is currently in theaters.
While this was his first trip to TRS, he is no stranger to Sierra Leone. Born in England, his father was from Sierra Leone, and his mother was from Ghana. Since gaining citizenship to Sierra Leone in 2019, Idris usually visits Sierra Leone as a guest to the president and his wife. He has many philanthropic endeavors and a heart for working with kids and young adults. Since visiting Sierra Leone In 2019, he continues to envision Sierra Leone’s potential and the impact it could have.
On his recent trip to Sierra Leone, he reached out to The Raining Season about visiting the center. During his time at the center, he spent time sharing with our kids and staff. He asked them questions about what they wanted to do in the future and even gave them time to ask him questions. Of course, our kids could not let him leave without singing some songs for him!
Our kids and staff were thrilled about this visit. Co-founder Osseh Kamara shared Idris’ reaction to visiting The Raining Season. He said that Idris shared that having seen the kids and the work TRS is doing, he knows that supporting The Raining Season in the future would be supporting a worthy cause and that it would be used very well. The Raining Season is grateful for the opportunity to establish this relationship with Idris Elba and is looking forward to partnering with him more in the future.
