Preparing for a New School Year

As summer comes to a close, The Raining Season Preparatory and Junior Secondary School is once again preparing to fill with the sounds of students and teachers. Although school was out for much of the summer, learning never stopped at TRS. Through a summer school program for students and professional development for teachers, the TRS team has been preparing for another year of growth and learning.

For the third consecutive year, The Raining Season Preparatory School offered a summer school program designed to help students strengthen their academic skills and prepare for the upcoming school year. From July 27th through August 20th, seventy-two students participated in summer school. This included forty-six TRS children and twenty-six children from the local community. Nine TRS teachers participated in the program, giving students additional opportunities to review key concepts, build confidence, and continue learning during the summer months. 

Summer school is also an important way for The Raining Season to serve children beyond those already enrolled in our programs. Welcoming community children through the school doors allows The Raining Season to extend its impact while creating opportunities for new families to become connected with the school.

Preparing students for a successful school year also means investing in the teachers who guide them. In late August, all fourteen Raining Season Preparatory and Junior Secondary teachers participated in a three-day professional development program focused on the theme “Enhancing Teaching Excellence for Improved Learner Outcomes.”

The training was led by an expert facilitator from SOS Children’s Villages in Freetown and gave teachers the opportunity to learn, reflect, and strengthen their classroom practices. Over the three days, teachers explored effective teaching and classroom practice, assessment, inclusion, and child protection, and finally, technology, professional growth, and school improvement. With all Raining Season Preparatory and Junior Secondary teachers participating, the training provided a valuable opportunity for the entire teaching team to grow together and prepare for the needs of their students.

The new school year began this week on September 7th. While many students have already returned, the admission process for new students will continue through the end of September. We are excited to see the classrooms filled again and to begin another year of learning, growth, and opportunity at The Raining Season Preparatory and Junior Secondary School.
