Summer Holiday Visits with Family

School may be on summer holiday, but the busyness never stops at The Raining Season. This summer holiday, sixteen children from The Raining Season have had the opportunity to spend time with their families. Depending on when they left, the children will spend up to four weeks with their loved ones before returning to TRS at the end of this month.

While these visits may be temporary, they are an important part of something much bigger. For children living at The Raining Season, time with family is about more than this holiday visit. These opportunities allow children to strengthen relationships with their families and become more connected to the people and communities they come from. Uncle Osseh explained that these visits are especially important for future reunification. They give children the chance to get to know their families more deeply and to meet extended family members who may not have the opportunity to visit them while they were living at The Covering.

A few weeks spent together can create familiarity and connections that continue once the children return to TRS. At The Raining Season, the goal has always been more than simply providing a safe place for children to live. TRS seeks to care for the whole child while also recognizing the importance of family. For many children, reunification with their families may eventually be possible. When that happens, the relationships built along the way matter. That is why opportunities like these summer holiday visits are so meaningful. They allow children and their families to spend time together in their own communities and everyday environments. They create space for conversations, shared experiences, and the simple joy of being together.

These visits are one small but meaningful way TRS continues to foster family connections. The children will soon return to The Raining Season, where they will begin a new school year and receive the care, support, and stability they have come to know, but these visits remind us that TRS is not meant to replace family. Instead, it can serve as a bridge in providing children with a safe and nurturing environment while continuing to encourage and strengthen the relationships that matter most.
