Birthdays in Sierra Leone

Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again: Rejoice! - Philippians 4:4

Join us in wishing our co-founder, Osseh Kamara, a very happy birthday today! Uncle Osseh has been a steady leader within The Raining Season organization since the very beginning. Erica Rust shared this when she announced Osseh as a co-founder, “You see, Osseh is a world changer and a culture shifter. His heart for the orphan mirrors the heart of God, and there is no one with more experience than him. We are honored to watch him continue to serve, working alongside him as we begin new chapters and step into the future of TRS.” Uncle Osseh continues to serve day in and day out, lending his expertise. He continues to serve in the role of Roots Program Development, along with a long list of often unrecognized duties. Thank you, Osseh, for your many years of dedication to The Raining Season. May God abundantly bless you in the year ahead!

What do birthdays in Sierra Leone look like? Birthdays are joyful celebrations. Sierra Leoneans have adopted many traditions of the western world. Birthdays often include gifts, parties, and birthday cake. A birthday is viewed as a gift and blessing for another year of life. The birthday cake is often first cut by the celebrant followed by close friends and family each making a cut in the cake.

Matt Pearson’s team had the opportunity to celebrate former Roots Home house parent, Charles Currie, and one of our children’s birthdays on their June 2018 trip. The kids love any special, out of the ordinary activity. They joyfully sang, popped balloons, and danced. We are looking forward to giving them more reasons to celebrate in 2021!

Here is a small glimpse at Charles Currie’s 2018 birthday celebration in Sierra Leone.

Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear uncle Charles! Happy birthday to you! We wish long life! We wish you God’s blessings! We wish you God’s favor! Happy birthday to you!

There is one week left to order The Raining Season's 2021 calendar. The proceeds of the 2021 Raining Season Calendar will go directly back to our children, and it will help them create special birthday memories in the coming year. Our children are children of God. They are loved and cared for by an army of supporters, both in Sierra Leone and around the world. You have the opportunity to make birthdays special for our children in 2021!  Will you help our kids feel like kings and queens on their birthdays?

Many blessings,

The Raining Season
