Sports Days 2025

Earlier this month, our children at The Raining Season Preparatory School and our children who attend Rising Academy had the fun opportunity to participate in one of the most anticipated events of the school year—Sports Day!  It is always a day to make memories filled with energy, laughter, and teamwork.

First up on April 1st was The Raining Season Preparatory School’s Sports Day.  This was the third time our school has hosted this event.  Our school serves more than one hundred thirty children, and many of the children come from the surrounding community.  The kids, our staff, and families were all excited about this special day and the opportunity to cheer the kids on.  Then, on April 9th, our children who attend Rising Academy had their Sports Day.  Sports Day is held each year as part of the school’s extracurricular activities.

Both days were filled with a lot of fun and friendly competition.  The events, held at the SS CAMP fields located at Hill Station, began the day with the playing of Sierra Leone’s National Anthem.  The children were divided into colorful teams and wore matching shirts to represent their groups.  The TRS Preparatory School was divided into four teams – blue, yellow, white, and orange.

Throughout both days, the kids participated in events, including sprint races, musical chairs, cup stacking, the three-legged race, and relay races.  One event the children really enjoy is the African Queen.  In this event, each team had a young girl dress in African clothing and promenade through the field while surrounded by her team.

Sports Day is not only fun but also teaches the kids teamwork, perseverance, hard work, and sportsmanship. Not all the kids compete, but if their teachers think they will be good at an event, they are chosen to participate. The rest of the kids cheer on their classmates while they compete. We had kids competing and cheering.

We love these special days because they remind us of just how important it is for our children to have opportunities like this—to grow, celebrate, and simply enjoy being kids. Thank you for your continued encouragement and support. We are thankful for the many ways you show up to cheer on our kids all through the year.

Many blessings,

The Raining Season
