On April 24th, our children at The Raining Season Preparatory School had the exciting opportunity to participate in one of the most anticipated events of the school year, Sports Day! It was a day full of energy, laughter, teamwork, and memories for the students, their families, and our staff.

Sports Day was held on an even larger scale this year, as it also included the new Raining Season Junior Secondary School students. Many children who no longer live at The Covering returned to watch, along with many family members and supporters from the community. It was a fun day for everyone.
This year marked the fourth time our Preparatory School has hosted Sports Day. Our school serves more than 130 children, many of whom come from the surrounding community. Students, staff, and families were all excited for this special day and the chance to cheer on the children as they participated. Sports Day is one of the highlights of our extracurricular calendar each year.
The event was held at the SS Camp Fields located at Hill Station and began with the playing of Sierra Leone’s National Anthem. The children were divided into colorful teams including blue, yellow, white, and orange, and they proudly wore matching shirts to represent their groups.

Throughout the day, the children competed in a variety of fun events, including sprint races, musical chairs, cup stacking, three-legged races, and relay races. One of the most beloved traditions is the African Queen and King event. In this special presentation, a young girl and a young boy from each team, dressed in beautiful African attire, proudly paraded across the field while surrounded by their cheering teammates.
Sports Day is about much more than competition. It teaches teamwork, perseverance, discipline, and good sportsmanship. While not every child competes in an event, teachers select participants based on their abilities, and every student has an important role, whether competing on the field or encouraging classmates from the sidelines.

We are thankful for days like these because they remind us how important it is for children to have opportunities to grow, celebrate, and simply enjoy being kids. Thank you for your continued encouragement and support. We are grateful for the many ways you continue to cheer on our children throughout the year.
Many blessings,
The Raining Season
