As Sierra Leone approaches the heaviest rains of the rainy season, we want to give thanks for the place that offers protection from the rains and so much more.
The Covering may be the name of a building, but our hope is that behind the walls is a place of refuge. The Covering is a haven where children can be children—a place where they can celebrate birthdays and be tucked in each night—a place where they can go to school and church. The Covering is a place that protects and nurtures them.
The Covering houses more than ninety children, but it is more than a building; it is their home, and for some, it is the only home they remember. It provides stability, love, and a nurturing environment. The Covering allows us to provide safety, education, medical, spiritual, and nutrition twenty-four hours a day, three hundred sixty-five days a year.
The Raining Season has called The Covering home for nearly twelve years. It was a place of refuge in 2014 as Ebola ravaged Sierra Leone and again in 2020 when a global pandemic affected the world. Year after year, it provides protection from the heavy rains in August and September and is a place that allows us to welcome some of the most vulnerable children in Sierra Leone with open arms.
The Covering is open to the community through its on-site church and primary school. It provides hope and opportunity. The Covering has allowed us to care for hundreds of children through the years, offering hope, safety, opportunity, restoration, and so much more.
Today, we are specifically asking for prayers for Sierra Leone as it moves closer to the heaviest rains of the season. We ask the Lord for His safety and protection over our children, our staff, and all the people of Sierra Leone who are affected by the relentless and sometimes devastating rains.
Many blessings,
The Raining Season
