The Covering

Somewhere to sleep,

Somewhere to eat,

Somewhere to learn,

Somewhere to grow,

Somewhere to be discipled,

Somewhere to be safe,

Somewhere to be loved.

On September 12, 2012, our children and staff moved into The Covering at 26D Spur Road.  After two previous homes, we finally found a place that fit our needs.  Four apartment-style buildings with enough room to house offices for our staff to work, a kitchen for our cooks to prepare three meals a day, classrooms to help us provide school onsite, an area large enough to serve as our church, a room for our onsite nurse to do wellness checks as well as treat injuries and illness, and most importantly, individual apartment-style rooms to house the children we serve.

We have called The Covering home for nearly thirteen years.  It has welcomed children in their most vulnerable states, and it provides a safe haven for the children it serves. In thirteen years, we have dug a well, built a garden, opened our school to the community, and welcomed teams to our center with open arms.

To some, it may be just a building. To the children we love and serve, it is so much more.  Every child who walks through our gates finds more than food and shelter. They find safety, structure, and love. It's where healing begins. Where trauma is met with dignity and where hope is restored. The Covering's reach doesn't stop with the children who live there. It also serves the local community by providing jobs and offering an affordable education to children in the surrounding area.

For years, our annual building campaign has played a critical role in covering the cost of The Covering's rent.  Many times, we have come to you as we launched our building campaign to raise the funds needed to secure the buildings for another year.  In those moments, even when it seemed like too much, we were reminded of God's faithfulness as each year He provided through your generosity.

This year, the funds to help cover our rent came through a generous campaign outside of The Raining Season.  Last year, we were honored to share that Idris and Sabrina Elba, along with Christian Louboutin, had chosen The Raining Season as one of six organizations worldwide to participate in their third Walk a Mile in My Shoes (WAMIMS) campaign.  The initiative was first introduced in June 2021 to celebrate hope, empathy, and diversity.  2024's collection, imagined by Idris and Sabrina Elba along with Christian Louboutin, was a capsule collection that aimed to support social equality and foster young people's creative development. 100% of the proceeds from sales of the Limited-Edition Capsule Collection were shared with six charities worldwide, and The Raining Season was able to apply this generous gift to our yearly rent.

Thank you, Idris and Sabrina Elba, and Christian Louboutin, for partnering with The Raining Season for a second time.  We are honored and grateful for your hearts for giving back to others.  This gift enables us to go beyond simply meeting the basic needs of our children. The Covering provides stability—the foundation from which our children thrive and dream of bright futures.  We are grateful for your gift, which allows The Raining Season to continue its mission in Sierra Leone.

Many blessings,

The Raining Season
