Birthdays at The Raining Season have become something our children look forward to. This week, we are looking back at our very first birthday celebration.
Today, birthday parties are simply part of life at The Raining Season. On the final Saturday of each month, the children gather to celebrate everyone who had a birthday that month. There is cake, singing, laughter, and plenty of smiles as the children and staff celebrate together. It’s a day our children eagerly anticipate each month.
But it wasn’t always that way.
When we first opened The Covering, many of our children didn’t even know their birthdays. Some had never celebrated one before. They had never blown out candles, enjoyed a birthday cake, or experienced the joy of having an entire room of people celebrate them.
We knew that needed to change.
Nearly 15 years ago, we hosted our very first birthday celebration. It may have seemed like a simple party, but it represented something much bigger. It was a way of telling each child, “Your life matters. You are loved. You are worth celebrating.”

That first celebration became the beginning of a tradition that continues today. While birthdays were originally celebrated quarterly, we’ve since made it a priority to celebrate them every month so that no child’s special day goes unnoticed.
Each celebration is about far more than cake and treats. It’s an opportunity to remind every child that they are seen, cherished, and loved. Since we first started celebrating fifteen years ago, we are proud to say that EVERY child has had a birthday celebration EVERY year!
Looking back at birthday celebrations through the years reminds us how far we’ve come and how grateful we are for everyone who has helped make this tradition possible. Thank you for helping us celebrate not just birthdays, but the incredible children who make The Raining Season so special.
Many blessings,
The Raining Season
