August Update

Updated: Aug 8

This week, we have a couple of quick updates from Sierra Leone to share with you, including students taking the Basic Education Certificate Exam, summer school at The Raining Season Primary School, and an update on what our kids are doing this summer.  The kids have been enjoying their break from school, but the heavy rains limit the time they are able to spend outdoors.

Basic Education Certificate Examination

Six of our kids are currently taking the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).  They started on July 29th and are expected to finish up this week.  Passing this exam will allow these six students to promote to senior secondary school later this year, which means they will attend Rising Academy.  We are proud of all our children and their hard work. They have gone above and beyond in their studies as they prepare to become future leaders in Sierra Leone and beyond.

The Raining Season

Summer School at The Raining Season Primary School

The Raining Season Primary School opened its doors to the community in the fall of 2022. Since then, it has grown to more than one hundred thirty children from TRS and the surrounding community. This summer, they are offering their first-ever summer school session. As it has entered its second week, twenty-six children from the community and thirty-three children from the center are attending.

This is an incredible opportunity for The Raining Season to serve the community by offering summer school at a very affordable price.  The small fee is used to cover extra supplies that are needed.  Summer school helps the children retain information they learned during the previous school year, and it also empowers them for the new grade level they will begin in the fall.  The classes are also helping students who need a little extra support in specific academic areas.

Summer Activities

Each year, our kids are on break from school from July to early September.  End-of-year exams are complete, and our children are already anxiously looking forward to the next school year, but first, they deserve a little rest.  Our kids worked incredibly hard this school year, and we are proud of them and everything they have overcome.  Their summer break is relatively quiet because it rains nearly every day, and the rains are very heavy at times.  If it’s not raining, they spend time playing outside in the afternoon, but they have also been watching movies to help pass the time indoors.

Summer schedules are more relaxed without school, and many of our children welcome the break.  Our kids would love to be out of their apartments more, but with the heavy rains, they spend more time indoors.  Join us in praying for our kids as they rest and recharge for the new school year.  We also pray for protection and safety from the rains both at our center and throughout Sierra Leone.

Many blessings,

The Raining Season
