Celebrating Love & Honoring Roots

In 2021, we shared Faith (Stine) Corbin’s story when she served as an Ambassador for Kids at TRS.  She came to The Covering when she was eleven years old and experienced firsthand the impact that sponsorship can have at The Raining Season.  She has continued to serve as an advocate for vulnerable children in Sierra Leone and support The Raining Season in continuing its mission.

Nearly one year ago, Faith returned to Sierra Leone for a celebration that was joy-filled and a beautiful full circle. After getting married in the United States on June 1st, 2024, Faith and her husband, Truett, traveled to Sierra Leone in November to share in a second celebration.  This time, they were surrounded by those who had shaped Faith’s early years and walked alongside her journey.

Faith shared that it was important to celebrate in Sierra Leone because so many people there had invested in her life. “It was important to me to give them an opportunity to celebrate this special moment,” she said.

The main celebration took place at a hotel in Lumley, where Faith and Truett celebrated with her biological family, old friends, including her best friend from sixth grade, and both past and present staff members and friends of The Raining Season. Her biological family traveled many miles to attend, and brought gifts from their village, including fruits, rice, a goat, palm oil, and coconut oil that they made themselves. The outpouring of love made the day unforgettable.

During their trip, Faith and Truett also made time to visit The Covering.  “We danced, laughed, and shared special memories,” she recalled. The children and staff welcomed the couple with singing and prayers.

Faith shared that one of the best parts of the trip was seeing everyone embrace her husband. “Everyone fell in love with him,” she shared. “He loves my culture and language without any judgment.”

Their wedding celebration in Sierra Leone wasn’t just about love between two people.  It was about honoring roots, sharing joy with those who helped shape a life, and introducing a new chapter to a place that remains very important to her.

Today, we celebrate the beauty of that visit and the powerful connection between Faith’s past and present. Thank you, Faith and Truett, for sharing your joy with The Raining Season family and for your continued support.

Many blessing,

The Raining Season
