2026 Enable the Children Annual Beach Outing

Seven children and four caregivers from The Raining Season recently had the opportunity to once again attend World Hope International’s Enable the Children Annual Beach Day in Sierra Leone. Held this year at Aberdeen Beach, the event welcomed between 600-700 children living with disabilities and their families and caregivers for a special day of joy, connection, and celebration.

Enable the Children is a project of World Hope International that serves families impacted by disability across Sierra Leone and beyond. Each year, this special gathering creates space for children and caregivers to feel seen, valued, and included. The beach day is more than an outing.  It is a reminder that every child belongs.

Our children and staff listened to the opening address and speeches from NGO leaders and government officials. They also watched skits performed by various organizations, heard testimonies from caregivers and parents, and learned more about different types of disabilities. It was an opportunity to interact with other families while asking questions, sharing ideas, and encouraging one another. Everyone enjoyed food and drinks, danced with new friends, and played games together.

While the beach day is always a highlight, it is also encouraging for our caregivers. Connecting with other parents, caregivers, and professionals strengthens their knowledge and renews their hearts for the work they do every day.

Enable the Children has partnered with The Raining Season’s Hope Apartment for many years, faithfully supporting children in our care with special needs. Their team regularly visits The Covering to train our caregivers in practical skills, including play-based therapy, developmental positioning, and feeding support. This hands-on training equips our staff to serve the children better and improve their quality of life.

In addition, the physiotherapy team works directly with some of our children and has provided essential equipment and assistive devices. Most recently, they replaced the Hope Apartment’s tilted chairs.  Their expertise, compassion, and ongoing support make a lasting difference for both the children and caregivers.

We are incredibly grateful to World Hope International and the Enable the Children team for inviting The Raining Season to be part of this annual celebration. Thank you for your time, planning, and heart for children and families across Sierra Leone. Our staff returned encouraged, uplifted, and reminded that they are part of a larger community that celebrates inclusion, belonging, and love.

Many blessings,

The Raining Season
