The Raining Season

A Special Blessing from Maryland

The center had a very special visitor on September 6th. Over the years, the Raining Season has been very fortunate to receive support from people both in the U.S. and in Sierra Leone. When we think back over the years, we can’t help but see God at work in orchestrating each and every connection. For more than ten years, we have shared many stories of how others have blessed The Raining Season. Several years ago, there were Marines who came to our center to play with the kids. A man working off the coast of West Africa discovered The Raining Season, and his family began sponsoring. In 2018 the U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone visited the center as well as Sierra Leone music star Emerson. There are so many other stories of how others have reached out to The Raining Season and supported us in our mission.

In early September, we were once again blessed by the generosity of others. About six months ago, a family originally from Sierra Leone but living in Maryland reached out to The Raining Season. They asked about our needs, and Executive Director, Lori Pyle, shared a list of items that they could purchase on Amazon. Their daughter is a student at College Park Academy in Riverdale Park, Maryland. The Interact Club of College Park Academy, under club president Mariam Kuyateh, worked together to provide a generous donation of supplies to The Raining Season. They purchased the items and then shipped them to a relative living in Sierra Leone.

On September 6th, the items were delivered to our center by the family’s mom’s sister living in Sierra Leone. The special delivery included medical supplies and medicine, clothes and shoes, books, new backpacks, and two big bags of sweets! You can imagine how excited our kids and staff were to welcome this donation. Even better, the new backpacks came just in time for the new school year! It has been more than eighteen months since a team has visited and brought supplies to the center, so this donation had an even larger impact. It replenished some of our resources that are either difficult to purchase in Sierra Leone or very expensive in Freetown.

A BIG thank you to The Interact Club of College Park Academy. We are grateful for the supplies that you donated to our center. They will be very helpful as we continue to love and serve the children that we care for.

Many blessings,

The Raining Season
