It’s #GivingTuesday! Each year, people like YOU give back to The Raining Season and help us continue our mission in Sierra Leone. We are so grateful that when a need arises, so many supporters are ready to jump in and support our children. Giving Tuesday is an impactful way to donate to small nonprofits doing great work. We know that there are many charities where you can share your money. We are VERY thankful for the many people who choose to support us financially on Giving Tuesday and all through the year.
Are you looking for a way to give back on Giving Tuesday? Our Roots program is growing! Recently, two more young women moved into the girls’ Roots house after passing the West African Senior School Certificate Exam (WASSCE). In all, six young adults passed this exam earlier this year, and all six applied to university and are awaiting acceptance letters. If they are accepted, eleven young adults will be enrolled in university. Sponsorship helps ensure our children receive a quality education through grade twelve, but the additional cost of attending university and the supplies needed extend beyond sponsorship. The dedicated sponsors of these young adults are contributing to supporting them through university, but there are practical ways that you can support their education, too.
A $75 donation provides lunch for a University student for one year. $209 covers transportation to and from school for one year. $300 provides a university student from Roots with a laptop to use in their classes and for homework. $1,000 covers tuition and all expenses of a first-year university student. Finally, we are looking for donations of gently used iPhones purchased within the past four years for our university students. This is a practical way to support the Roots with something that may already be lying around your home. If you are able to donate an iPhone, please reach out to donations@therainingseason.org.
