👋🏼 Meet Lawrence

Updated: Mar 8, 2022

As The Roots Project continues to expand, it is looking ahead to the future of the young adults it serves. This includes working with the children to identify the best path based on their individual strengths. As our kids in the Roots apartments continue to attend school, they are working with our Roots leadership team to determine if college, trade school, or employment in Freetown would meet their goals and strengths. The future is bright for these future leaders of Sierra Leone, and we want to ensure that we equip them with all of the necessary skills to succeed.

Meet Lawrence. Lawrence is one of sixteen young adults that is currently part of the Roots Project. This week, we are taking a closer look at Lawrence in our ongoing How it Started - How it’s Going feature.

How it Started - Lawrence was born on March 15, 2003, at a refugee camp in Guinea. He came to The Raining Season in 2010, when he was seven years old. His mother fled Sierra Leone during the war. After the war, they returned to Freetown, but she became ill and later passed away. Lawrence was eventually brought to our center.

How it’s Going - Today, Lawrence is eighteen years old. He is smart and enjoys school. As you can see in the pictures, Lawrence has grown from a little boy to a young man in the eleven years he has been a part of The Raining Season. In his free time, Lawrence enjoys listening to music, dancing, and drawing. It has been amazing watching him grow and change over the years. He is healthy and growing big and strong. He is excelling in school. He is well cared for and knows that he is loved.

Lawrence has been able to call The Raining Season home for eleven years, thanks to an outstanding staff and the many sponsors that support him each month. Thank you for being part of Lawrence’s story at The Raining Season. Because of people like you, Lawrence has a safe place to live, opportunity through education, nutritious food, essential medical care, and spiritual nurturing every day.
