There are eighty-eight reasons why we say “yes” every day. Eighty-eight children and young adults depend on The Raining Season as we strive to raise up a new generation that will bring hope for the future. The Covering allows us to serve these children and offer hope through the five pillars of The Raining Season’s philosophy; safety, education, medical, spiritual, and nutrition.
This week, we are sharing one of our eighty-eight reasons - Sorie. Sorie came to The Raining Season in 2017. He turned eighteen years old in July and he enjoys drawing and dancing in his free time. Education is important to Sorie. He recently completed the Basic Education Certificate Examination and anticipates entering grade 10 when he receives his results soon. His favorite subject is math. Like many of our boys, he dreams of one day being a professional soccer player. However, he also has a goal to become a businessman. As a businessman, he would like to be either a banker or a business manager. The Covering provides Sorie opportunity through education.
The Covering also ensures that Sorie has a safe place to live. Having a roof over his head every night for the past five years has provided Sorie with so much more than just protection from the heavy rains that come in August and September or the extreme heat that follows in January. Sorie shared, “TRS will go all out to see that we have everything that will make us happy and safe. I love The Covering because we are safe, and it is better to be safe.”
Because of The Covering, Sorie also has access to essential medical care. He is healthy and strong and has access to vitamins and medicine when needed. He can also count on our medical staff to help him when he is sick or if a soccer match ends with bumps and bruises.
Sorie’s favorite food is rice soup with chicken. At The Covering, he is provided with three meals a day. He doesn’t have to worry about where his next meal will come from. However, many of our kids look forward to special occasions when they receive special meals. Rice soup with chicken is a special meal that Sorie looks forward to. Sorie has access to nutritious food every day, including the occasional special meal.
Finally, at The Covering, Sorie receives spiritual nurturing every day. Pastor Daniel, along with the rest of our staff, disciple the children through church, bible studies, and devotions. Sorie’s favorite bible verse is Romans 12:13, “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Welcome others into your home.” Sorie compared Romans 12:13 to what TRS is doing, saying, “The Raining Season is sharing their love and support with children that are in need and welcoming them with open arms.”
Sorie has grown in his faith, excelled in school, and built many relationships since coming to The Raining Season. Thank you for being a part of Sorie’s story at The Raining Season. Because of people like you, Sorie can look forward to a bright future. He has a safe place to live, opportunity through education, nutritious food, essential medical care, and spiritual nurturing every day.
A building is only part of what makes it possible for The Raining Season and our incredible staff to care for Sorie. The Covering, along with the Roots homes, is home to eighty-eight children, but it has impacted many more lives in the past ten years. Sorie’s story would have looked very different had it not been for The Raining Season. Now, he has hopes and dreams and, because of The Covering, a chance that those hopes and dreams just might become a reality.
“I believe that God has good plans for me, and I’m easy to love and lovely to be with. I would like to share my thanks to all supporters of TRS, and I pray God will bless and help us all achieve our dreams. Thank you!” - Sorie

You can help provide shelter for Sorie for another year. We are entering the final week of our building campaign, and we still need to raise $18,993 to reach our goal. Will you step in and ensure that Sorie and the rest of the children at The Raining Season can continue to call The Covering home? They are counting on YOU! DONATE today!
Many blessings,
The Raining Season
