Over the years, through the generosity of people like you, we have learned that you are never too young to make a difference. Seventh graders at Pella Middle School, located in Pella, Iowa, recently made a generous donation to The Raining Season after completing a year-long project as part of their Social Studies classes. The Raining Season was honored to be selected as a recipient of their year-long charitable project.
Seventh graders at Pella Middle School have been giving back to charities across the world for many years. Beginning as early as 2011, the seventh-grade social studies classes at Pella Middle School complete a charitable project each year. At the beginning of this school year, each class discussed the United Nations Global Goals and how they could serve globally, domestically, and locally to help those in need. The students worked together to choose the charities they would donate to. First, each social studies class researched different organizations and then voted on a plan for how the money should be distributed and to which charities. The Raining Season was one of eleven charities that received a donation this year. A student from the class shared why TRS was one of the charities they chose to donate to, “The Raining Season was a charity that caught our attention because of how kind and generous they are. They spread hope to children and everyone in their community.”
The students created and executed a business plan to raise the money that would be donated. This year, they ran a concession stand during winter activities at the school. The kids took ownership of the project, and every seventh grader worked at least one shift at the concession stand this year. They earned a profit of $4,168.50 to share with the charities they chose.
On April 21, they held their annual check presentation ceremony. Representatives from many of the organizations were present to accept the checks from the students. Doug Diers accepted the check on behalf of The Raining Season. The Diers family has been a part of The Raining Season family for many years supporting TRS through sponsorship, travel, and adoption.
A student from the class shared, “It has been an honor contributing to The Raining Season and all the other charities involved in this event. Throughout the school year, students have been learning about making a positive difference in the world, and this project has helped to teach the joy involved in that. We could not be happier to contribute to The Raining Season, and we hope that our check is helping to make a positive difference on you and your organization.”
Thank you to the Pella Middle School seventh-grade class for the impact you are making locally and globally. We are so grateful for your generosity and hearts for the children at The Raining Season in Sierra Leone. You are world changers!
Many blessings,
The Raining Season
